Flat and Fast; It's All Relative?

We drove the half marathon course after church today and I would not call it flat! The first 5 miles are rolling. I had heard there were some "hills" but there were more than I thought! I know in comparison to some races with real hills its all relative, but this course is going to be a challenge... I now know that my goals and ideas about this race are going to be very different!
On a positive note the last 4 miles are on flat open streets. The finish line area looks like it will be a really neat place. I am glad we drove the course today as it has given me some real clear ideas of what to watch for and how to adjust my goals.

Oh, your post yesterday really hit home for me. Some days I go out there and just nothing goes with with my watch, my ipod, my shoe laces, etc. and it's always such a good lesson to check and recheck myself. What's REALLY important today? Just running. I know that will be true with your half marathon, despite the challenges. This is just another one of those little things in life that make you dig deep and press on with strength!! You know what to do!
Thanks for the two great posts, they went well together for me!

Oops, I meant to say that "just nothing goes well." Hugs!

oh the school of running and hard knocks, right? Running is such a life lesson all of the time. Loved the post, and you know what...i think you will have a GREAT race experience. You "got the bumps" out of the way, like a tune-up course, and now you are READY. Hope you have a nice relaxing, and restful week. Good Luck next weekend. Most of all, enjoy the experience.

Thank you ladies for the encouragement it means a lot coming from you two, as I know what fine runners you are. I say that with all sincerity. I am so thankful to have running in my life again; it was not too long ago when running 5 miles was daunting. I need to keep it in perspective. Thanks again.

Look for the sun rising over the first bridge. There will be lots to see (stores, people)to keep your mind off how tired you feel. It will be fun!
